Farm Connect Montana Western Montana Food and Farm Trail FAQ
Western Montana Food & Farm Trail — Participant FAQ
What is the Passport?
The Passport is a printed guidebook featuring all participating Trail locations. It includes your business listing, illustrated maps, seasonal charts, curated itineraries, and space for visitors to collect stamps as they explore farms, markets, and locally sourced food spots across the region.
Does it cost anything to be listed?
No. Participation is
100% free
, thanks to USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP) funding
Do I need to be open every day or have set hours?
No. You maintain your regular business hours. Seasonal operations, part-time farmstands, and limited open days are all welcome. Visitors will see your listed hours in the passport and digital map.
How does the passport and stamp-collecting work?
Each participating business receives a custom stamp and a spot in the printed passport. Visitors bring their passport to your location and collect a stamp—either from you or at a self-serve station. As they explore more Trail stops, they fill their passport and can earn prizes or incentives throughout the season.
What counts as a “physical location” for stamping?
Any place where visitors can stop and collect a stamp qualifies — whether you or your staff are present, or you offer a simple self-serve stamp station. Farm Connect provides all stamp materials.
What if I don’t have staff to stamp passports?
Self-serve is absolutely fine. A simple box or station with your stamp works great. Many farms choose this option and it still adds to the fun, tactile experience.
I’m a farmers market vendor. Can I participate?
Yes. Farmers market vendors, CSAs, and qualifying value-added producers are all eligible. Your market booth can serve as your “stamp location.”
Do I have to host events, tours, or on-farm experiences?
No. The Trail includes everything from full agritourism destinations to simple farmstands and farmers market stands.
Can I update my listing after I sign up?
Listings for the printed passport can be updated before March 1, 2026 when the passport goes to print. After that time, only your digital listing with Abundant can be updated.
When will the Trail launch?
The Trail will launch
May 2026
, with the campaign running
May–October 2026.
